Don't let the name fool you -
although Gino Soccio's name and background are thoroughly 100 percent
Italian, he is a native born Canadian. A solo artist, session musician
and producer (known as Kebekelektrik), who scored with the big hits
"Magic Fly" and "War Dance" in the mid 70s. Gino Soccio released his
sensational first album, Outline, in 1979. It featured the
number one disco smash, "Dancer." He has also released S-Beat in
(1980), Closer in (1981), Face to Face in (1982)
and Remember in (1984). "Try It Out" was also a funkier
effort in the early 80s.
Album Review - "Outline"
featuring the hit single "Dancer"
Gino Soccio's debut album,
Outline, is a perfect example of an
album that makes good on the promise with a killer single. The single
in question is "Dancer," an ultra-infectious Eurodisco classic that
soared to number one on the dance charts in both the U.S. and Europe.
While "Dancer" boasts a groove that simply won't quit, the rest of the
LP is merely decent. Outline isn't a bad album; "Dance to
Dance" and "The Visitors" (both of which underscore the Italian
artist's appreciation of German disco heavyweight Giorgio Moroder) are
perfunctory Euro-dance numbers, but they are hardly in a class with
"Dancer" (which takes up half of side one). Meanwhile, "There's a
Woman" blends high-tech gem, although it's catchy and interesting.
Outline has more plusses than minuses, but the fact remains that
"Dancer" is the only thing on the album that can honestly be described
as essential. |
